Nine hundred and forty two (942) turtle hatchlings have been hatched out from 1206 turtle eggs conserved in various parts of the island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP). They have been safely released into the sea in recent days and this rare event has caught the eye of many foreigners and civilians in the area.

The third RHIB familiarization course was conducted at Advanced Training Centre (ATC- Kirinda) for one officer & three sailors of SLCG. The duration of the course was 09 days (from 17th May 2022 to 25th May 2022) Training sessions were conducted by two instructors from UNODC with the assistance of RHIB maintenance team.

The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Hikkaduwa rescued a Russian National, during a successful rescue attempt on 16th May 2022. A 47 years old male from Russia was rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Hikkaduwa beach.

In view of improving the human resource base of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), forty candidates including fourteen officers have qualified to undertake drowning prevention responsibilities. The training course was commenced on 09th May 2022 and the candidates were given more realistic training exposure on rescue techniques and administration of lifesaving first aid in a five-day training program held at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS).

The CGTCP takes every effort to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural nesting cages to ensure safety and natural habitat, and only conserves them in protected areas when they are threatened.
