RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES FULFILLED AT SRI LANKA COAST GUARD HEADQUARTERS IN VIEW OF VESAK POYA DAY

A Bodhi Puja and Dharma Deshana programme were held at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters on 15th May 2022 to mark the Vesak Poya Day.

These meritorious acts had been organized by the Commanding Officer SLCG Rohana and the Coastguardsmen, in commemoration of the Vesak day which marks the Birth, the Enlightenment and the Passing Away of the Gautama Buddha. This year’s festival marks the 2566th year of the Sri Buddhist Era.

Coastguardsmen in the SLCG headquarters and SLCG Rohan had created large Vesak Lanterns with very beautiful decorations. It was opened to the general public in the area and a considerable number of locals and foreigners visited Vesak Lanterns on the first day of display.

After observance of the Five Precepts, the Dharma Sermon was delivered by Ven. Hakmana Madhuradhamma Thero, reminding the devotees of the importance of Vesak Poya Day and blessings were invoked on the Director General - SLCG, Coastguardsmen both serving and retired as well as their family members. At the end of the religious activities, the SLCG Rohana staff had arranged a Jack Fruit Dansala for all participants.

The religious event was attended by the Director General of SLCG, Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake, Deputy Director General of SLCG Commodore Janaka Nissanka and Coastguardsmen representing the SLCG Headquarters and the SLCG Rohana.

Meanwhile, the Coastguardsmen in other coast guard regions, engaged in religious observances including illuminating Vesak lanterns and lighting Pahan.
