COAST GUARD DEPLOYED ON FLOOD RELIEF DUTIES IN MATARA

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) deployed its assets to assist affected people from flash floods due to the bad weather condition on 01st and 2nd June 2022 in Matara district. Prompt disaster response of the SLCG was a major relief for the student sitting for the G.C.E Ordinary Level examination and it was greatly appreciated by the parents and local villages.

A team consisted of seven Coast Guard personnel and a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) with adequate lifesaving equipment deployed in Panadugama and Balakawala to provide relief assistance in liaison with Government officials in the Athuraliya Divisional Secretariat. The Sri Lanka Coast Guard is monitoring the flood situation and additional teams are on stand-by in the Southern and Western Coast Guard Regions for emergency deployments.
