SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CONDUCTED ONLINE MEETING WITH OFFICIALS OF JAPAN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGENCY AND JAPAN COAST GUARD

The kick-off meeting of project for institutionalization support to establish an “In-House Advanced Oil Spill Incident Management Training Program for Disaster Mitigation and Marine Environment Protection,” was held at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Waruna (Rear Headquarters-Wellewatte) Wardroom premises on 08th July 2022. The Deputy Director General-SLCG, Commodore Pujitha Vithana headed the meeting and Director Training Captain (ND) HAC Priyantha, Commanding Officer SLCGS Samaraksha LCdr (G) Menikge and Staff Officer (Mobile Training) LCdr (G) SMCB Kumara participated.

Mr. Cabral Indika, Mr. Shimada Kazuki and Mr. Mizuno Tsuyoshi attended the meeting, representing the Sri Lankan office of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The officials from the Infrastructure Management Department of JICA, Mobile Cooperation Team of Japan Coast Guard (JCG), Marine Environment Protection and Disaster Prevention Division of JCG and National Strike Team of JCG attended the meeting via virtual platform.

Following Objectives were highlighted by JICA/JCG during the meeting.

Continuation of the project on institutionalization support to establish an In-House Advanced Oil Spill Incident Management Training Program scheduled as phase III (2022 to 2024) and provides training assistance by JICA/JCG according to the plan of operation included in to the minute of the meeting.

Establishing of Oil Spill Incident Management Training Instructor Team to continue In-house training.

This project was officially commenced w.e.f. 08th July 2022 for three years and next meeting will be conducted on September 2022. Japan delegation (JICA/ JCG/MCT) is scheduled to visit SLCG end of August 2022.
