FIRST LIFESAVING JOINT TRAINING COURSE FOR ARMY, NAVY AND SLCG CONCLUDED SUCCESSFULLY

In view of improving the aquatic emergency response capabilities, a joint training course was conducted for the members of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Coast Guard under the directives of the Director General-Sri Lanka Coast Guard (DG-SLCG). The training course was commenced on 04th July and the candidates were given more realistic training exposure in the sea on aquatic accident prevention, rescue, and revival techniques in a twelve-day training programme held at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS). The programme was concluded on 15th July and twenty-two lifeguard candidates already qualified in the lifesaving basic level from the previous training courses of LSTS have trained to be qualified as intermediate-level lifeguards to undertake a leading role in taking water safety and drowning prevention responsibilities.

This programme stands special as this training course is the first joint lifesaving training programme conducted by the LSTS so far for the members of SLA, SLN & SLCG. The DG-SLCG directed to conduct more joint lifesaving training courses in view of increasing the capability in the field of drowning prevention and water safety among the members of the tri-forces and improving the coherence of joint emergency response operations.
