SRI LANKA COAST GUARD PREVENTS ILLEGAL MIGRATION ATTEMPTS

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard has foiled an illegal migration attempt arresting 47 individuals along with three vehicles in Wennappuwa on PM 31st July 2022.

Based on the information received, the Coast Guard personnel attached to the Coast Guard Station Chilaw carried out a joint operation with the Sri Lanka Navy and Wennappuwa Police in Wennappuwa area and arrested/ apprehended a group of 47 persons along with three vehicles on suspicion of preparing to illicit migration by sea.

Among the group, there were 37 males, 06 females and 04 children who are from 04 to 81 years of age range. In addition, apprehended three vans used for the illegal act.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard personnel attached to the Coast Guard Station Chilaw and Wellamankara Fishery Harbour arrested six fishermen and a suspicious local multiday fishing trawler, involved with above illegal migration attempt at the Wellamankara fishery harbor on 01st August 2022.

The arrested persons with apprehended items were handed over to the Wennappuwa Police Station for onward legal actions
