NEW ZEALAND DELEGATION PAID A COURTESY CALL ON THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD

The Director General-Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake welcomed the delegation of New Zealand Police and Immigration at the Coast Guard Rear Headquarters, Wellawatte on 24th August 2022.

Director General SLCG explained the dedicated service of SLCG to deter human smuggling and counter-narcotic operations in the country and the challenges faced in conducting such operations. Further, he emphasised the intention to work closely with New Zealand law enforcement agencies and to enhance the exchange of information on law enforcement and irregular migration.

Visited New Zealand delegation included Mr. Joel Lamb, Senior Irregular Migration Liaison Officer-South East Asia and Mr. Brett Shields, Irregular Migration Liaison Officer-Sri Lanka. They expressed their admiration for the acceptance of the request made for the courtesy call and introduced the role and task of their agency. They also expressed the possibilities for extending training and capacity building in the fields of law enforcement and irregular migration for the enhancement of inter-agency cooperation and interaction. The cordial meeting culminated with an exchange of mementoes.
