US AMBASSADOR CALLS ON DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD

HE Julie J. Chung, the Ambassador of the United States of America in Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on the Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake on 19th September 2022 at the Coast Guard Headquarters, Mirissa.

The cordial meeting that ensued after the Ambassador was welcomed by Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana, the Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, focused on reviewing shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration in the areas of maritime law enforcement, maritime safety and marine environment protection, etc.

Director General SLCG explained the dedicated service of SLCG in combating IUU fishing, human smuggling, anti-narcotics operations and oil spill response operations in the country with the available limited resources and the challenges faced in conducting such operations.

Towards the end of the friendly meeting, Director General SLCG presented a memento to the envoy as a token of goodwill and understanding.

Senior Defence Official and Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the United States of America in Sri Lanka, Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Nelson and Chief, Office of Defence Cooperation, Lieutenant Commander Sean J. Jin were also present during the courtesy visit.
