SLCG ARRESTED FIVE FISHERMEN ENGAGING IN ILLEGAL FISHING PRACTICES

Sri Lanka Coast Guard patrol craft deployed off the Trincomalee area on routine patrol arrested/apprehended five fishermen along with 60 Kg of illegal fish catch and FGD whilst engaging in illegal fishing on 04^th November 2022. They were engaged in a purse seine net fishing operation in the sea off the Trincomalee area (approximately 250m from the land). According to the existing fishing operation regulations, purse seine net fishing is authorized only in the area beyond 11.2 km from the coast.

Arrested/apprehended fishermen and items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries of Trincomalee for further legal action.
