The collective effort of Coast Guard personnel attached to Life-Saving Posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Wellawaththa, and Mount Lavinia recovered 1084 numbers of a Sea turtle eggs from places close to their natural habitat during the period from 25th to 31st December 2022.
Under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP), every effort has been made to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural habitat to ensure protection since sea turtles are becoming a vulnerable species to extinction.
At the end of the year 2022, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard conserved 18945 turtle eggs and released 9574 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea.
