Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat (FPB), CG 406 handed over to LT HND Hapuachchige, Officer in Command on 18th January 2023 by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral TMAA TENNEKOON, WWV, RSP*, ndu, MSc (MS & NSSS), ADIDSS after successful completion of the major refit at SLNS Uththara.
The major refit of CG 406 was commenced on 31st July 2020 and successfully completed on 28th December 2022. The project was completed in three stages.The first and third stages were conducted at Northern Naval Command slipway at SLNS Uththara and the second stage was in floating condition.The major refit project of the CG 406 included major repairs for the craft’s hull, propulsion & auxiliaries. All repair works, had been undertaken by the Engineering and Electrical staff of SLN Northern Naval Command.
CG 406 has been originally joined to Sri Lanka Navy in 1995 as P 253 and built by the Colombo Dockyard (Pvt) Ltd. And, it was subsequently, handed over to Sri Lanka Coast Guard on 11th May 2011 to strengthen the Coast Guard capabilities to enforce law in Sri Lankan waters and ensure the maritime security. Today, CG 406 joined back into operations of the SLCG Northern fleet, on completion of the major refit.
