Meanwhile, SLCG released a total no of 2514 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Moragolla, Panadura, Mount Lavinia and Dehiwala during the same period.

The Coast Guard made a significant contribution to the protection and preservation of sea turtle populations through the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP). As sea turtles are a vulnerable species, their eggs and hatchlings are exposed to various threats such as human activity, predation and environmental factors. With the recovery of sea turtle eggs and the subsequent release of hatchlings into the sea, the Coast Guard has undoubtedly increased the chances of survival for these turtles.

From the beginning of 2023, the Sri Lankan Coast Guard has preserved 41342 turtle eggs and set free 10557 hatchlings into the ocean.
