The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Benthota public beach saved two locals during a successful rescue attempt on 29^th May 2023. At the Benthota public beach, two local males aged 15 years’ old who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.

SLCG has released 716 numbers of newly hatched sea turtles into the sea from Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, Moragalla, and Mount Lavinia beaches during the period from 15-21 May 2023. These turtles are released to the sea where retrieved eggs are conserved near lifesaving posts close to the natural habitat of the turtles.

At the Mirissa public beach, two Russian females aged 23 years’ old who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.

SLCG has released 1053 numbers of newly hatched sea turtles into the sea from Wellawaththa, Mirissa, Dehiwala, Moragalla, and Balapitiya beaches during the period from 08-14 May 2023. The Maritime Skills Training programme conducted by the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme (ICITAP) which functions under the Department of Justice of the United States with the collaboration of the Embassy of US in Sri Lanka was successfully completed at Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Headquarters, Mirissa from 01^st to 12^th May 2023.
