COAST GUARD SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE FIRST COMBINED MARITIME LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING MODULE-2023

Twenty-four coast guard personnel completed the first combined maritime law enforcement training module for the academic year 2023 on 03 April 2023 at Advanced Training Centre (ATC), Kirinda. Lieutenant Commander Prashan Perera, Officer in Command of the ATC, graced the occasion as chief guest and awarded certificates to the undertrained.

This essential combined training provided Coast Guard personnel with a comprehensive guide to understanding and implementing maritime law enforcement procedures. Over 5 weeks, the course covered a broad range of modules, including the Acquaintance module (the legal framework for maritime law enforcement), the Search and Rescue module, the Visit Board Search and Seizure module (boarding procedures, use of force, and proper handling of evidence and documentation), the Oil Spill Response Management module, and the Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat Handling module.

The comprehensive maritime law enforcement training course successfully provided a combination of theoretical instructions and hands-on practical exercises to provide a thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities as maritime law enforcement officers to ensure enhanced maritime security. Furthermore, this training course provided a platform for participants to forge connections with professionals from various agencies.

Lieutenant Commander Prashan Perera admired the prideful accomplishment of all participants and reiterated the requirement to impart knowledge to other CG personnel once they returned to bases and the importance of taking on the leadership role as they sail towards new horizons.
