SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AND NAVY RESCUED SIX FISHERMEN DISTRESSED AT SEA

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy successfully rescued six fishermen who were distressed at sea off the Kaluthara coast on 14th May 2023.

Fishing vessel ‘Chathuranga 2’ (IMUL-A- CHW 0438) left for fishing from Negombo fishery harbour with six crew members distressed at the above location due to water seeping into the engine room. Upon receiving the information from the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard vessel attached to Beruwala fishery harbour directed to the location despite rough sea conditions and successfully rescued all local fishermen. Rescued fishermen were transferred to fishery harbour Beruwala and handed over to Fishery Inspector Beruwala after treating them with their basic needs.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all fishermen and seafarers in Sri Lankan waters. This successful rescue operation highlights the important role played by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard in safeguarding Sri Lanka's waters and protecting the lives of those who depend on the sea for their livelihoods.
