Temporary life-saving posts are set up by the SLCG near the Menik River area during the Katharagama festival season to ensure the safety of devotees who take baths in the river and may be at risk of drowning.

So far in 2023, Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers attached to 16 life-saving posts around the country have rescued 116 invaluable lives including 54 foreigners in several successful rescue attempts.
