COAST GUARD RESCUED A LOCAL TEENAGER FROM THE RISK OF DROWNING

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Lifesavers temporarily attached to Sella Katharagama Life Saving Point 02 (Menik River) saved a local teenager during a successful rescue attempt on 01st July 2023.

A 16-year-old female teenage devotee who visited the Katharagama festival was rescued by Coast Guard rescuers attached to Sella Katharagama lifesaving post whilst drowning at the Menik River. The swift response by skilled Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers managed to save these devotees’ life from drowning.

During the Katharagama festival season, the SLCG temporarily establish life-saving posts near the Menik River area since a number of devotees have baths in the river and are vulnerable to the risk of drowning

So far in 2023, Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers attached to 16 life-saving posts around the country have rescued 117 invaluable lives including 54 foreigners in several successful rescue attempts.
