COAST GUARD RESCUES A COUPLE OF RUSSIANS AND A FRENCH LADY FROM DROWNING AT MIRISSA BEACH

Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers attached to Mirissa Lifesaving Post rescued two Russians and a French during two successful rescue attempts in the afternoon of 02nd August 2023.

Two Russians who were 51 years old lady and a 47 years old gentleman have visited to Mirissa beach for a sea bath on 02nd August. Suddenly they were drowning and dragging away by the strong sea currents. The vigilant Coast Guard rescuers have responded quickly by taking actions to escape them from the danger and ensure the safety of drowning.

Then, another French lady who was 27 years old also was in danger of drowning and dragging towards the sea when she was bathing at the Mirissa beach on the same day. The Coast Guard lifesavers again responded within no time and prevented a possible tragedy to the young lady.

It is noted that the sea condition of these days specially in the western and southern coastal areas are not favorable for bathing and sea swimming due to large sea waves, sudden swells and heavy currents. Therefore, it has to ensure safety by taking adequate safety precautions if you are engaging with that kind of activities.

During the year 2023, Coast Guard lifesavers have rescued a total of 169 lives, including 66 foreigners, in various successful rescue operations. These commendable efforts exemplify the unwavering dedication and commitment of Coast Guard lifesaving personnel towards preserving valuable lives.
