COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO LOCALS AND A FOREIGNER

Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers rescued three persons including a Russian lady whilst drowning in two successful rescue attempts on 15th August 2023.

A Russian lady who was 47 years of age visited Hikkaduwa beach for a sea bath and started drowning and dragging away due to suddenly formed sea currents. The alerted Coast Guard lifesavers attached to Hikkaduwa Lifesaving Post quickly responded and brought her ashore safely.

On the same day evening, two youths aged 20 and 19 visited Mount Lavinia beach and were also rescued whilst at risk of drowning by Coast Guard lifesavers attached to Mount Lavinia's life-saving post.

It is commendable that Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers who were attached to 16 Life-Saving Posts around the island, have rescued 181 invaluable lives including 69 foreigners within the year 2023.
