COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO FOREIGNERS FROM RISK OF DROWNING

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) LifeSavers attached to Mirissa life-saving post saved two Lebanese during a successful rescue attempt on 16th August 2023.

A male and a female Lebanese aged 35 and 30 years old visited Mirissa beach to have a sea bath. While they were bathing at sea, suddenly dragged away due to emerged sea currents. The Coast Guard lifesavers who were in the vicinity of the victims immediately responded and brought them ashore safely. However, the female victim was found critical in condition and immediately transferred to District General Hospital Mathara along with Coast Guard medical staff.

During the South West monsoon, it is recommended to be aware of the conditions of the seas by the public when swimming in southern coast seas due to suddenly forming strong sea currents and high waves.

So far in 2023, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers have rescued 183 invaluable lives including 71 foreigners around the country during the successful rescue attempts.
