SRI LANKA COAST GUARD LIFESAVERS RESCUED 22 INVALUABLE LIVES WITHIN 20 DAYS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) is the premier maritime law enforcement force. It operates multi-mission services to ensure the security of the coastal areas, the Maritime Zones and the High seas. Other than SLCG’s major roles, it operates 16 lifesaving posts in selected crowded beaches around the country with trained and qualified Coast Guard personnel who are experts in life rescues.

During the last 20 days from 08th to 27th November 2023, SLCG lifesavers managed to rescue 22 human lives in several rescue operations at Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and Gopalpuram (Trincomalee) public beaches. It is important to note that 15 out of 22 were foreigners from Russia (09), Australia (02), Germany, Pakistan, the Czech Republic and Belarus respectively.

The public beaches in western and southern Sri Lanka are getting crowded with the start of the tourist season. It is noted to take safety precautions when bathing, especially for personnel unfamiliar with the sea and not competent at swimming.

SLCG has saved 265 human lives including 135 foreign nationals within the year 2023 up to now. It showcases the high vigilance, commitment and professionalism of the SLCG lifesavers towards social responsibility. The details of the successful life rescue operations conducted by SLCG from 08th to 27th November 2023 are as follows.
