WITHIN 15 DAYS, SRI LANKA COAST GUARD MANAGED TO SAVE 23 LIVES

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) lifesavers rescued 23 personnel including 17 foreigners during two weeks from 09th to 24th December 2023 at several public beaches.

The SLCG lifesavers attached to lifesaving posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Bentota, Pasikuda and Gopalpuram (Trincomalee) managed to save these lives during the period. It is a significant factor that 17 out of 24 were foreigners. The majority of rescuees were Russians and it was 11. The others were from England (02), Georgia (02), and Poland (01) respectively.

The public beaches in western and southern Sri Lanka are getting crowded with the arrival of foreign tourists. It is advised to take safety precautions when engaging sea activities.

So far in the year 2023, the SLCG saved 299 invaluable human lives including 163 foreigners. These statistics showcased the high vigilance, commitment and professionalism of the SLCG lifesavers.
