SRI LANKA COAST GUARD FOILS UNLAWFUL LOBSTER HARVEST AND ARRESTS FISHERMEN WITH DIVING EQUIPMENT

In a targeted special search operation on 23rdJanuary 2024, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Persons intercepted a Dingy boat with four fishermen arriving at Dehiwala Beach. The individuals were apprehended for their involvement in illegal activities, including the unlawful harvest of 09 no’s Lobsters and possession of diving equipment.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard, committed to upholding maritime laws and preserving marine resources, executed the operation with precision. The arrested fishermen and the seized diving equipment, deemed crucial evidence in the illicit operation, were promptly handed over to the Fishery Inspector (FI) in Dehiwala for further investigation. This collaborative effort aims to delve into the details of the unlawful lobster harvest and determine the extent of the individuals' involvement. The Sri Lanka Coast Guard's swift response underscores its dedication to curbing illegal fishing practices and maintaining the ecological balance of coastal waters.
