EMPOWERING MARINE CONSERVATION, SRI LANKA COAST GUARD WESTERN REGION RELEASED 2299 BABY TURTLES IN FEBRUARY

Among the serene shores of Sri Lanka, the Western Region hatcheries of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) witnessed a breathtaking spectacle in the month of February as 2299 newly born baby turtles embarked on their maiden voyage into the ocean. This composed under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP), not only mesmerized beachgoers but underscored the SLCG's unwavering commitment for marine conservation.

The release of 2299 baby turtles from SLCG hatcheries captured the imagination of visitors, both local and foreign, who gathered along the coastline to witness this rare and enchanting sight.

Through the CGTCP, SLCG personnel diligently recover and conserve turtle eggs from their vulnerable natural nests, ensuring their safety and preservation. By relocating them to protected areas, the SLCG plays a crucial role in safeguarding the natural habitat of these endangered species, thereby contributing to the conservation of Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity.
