SUCCESSFUL ANTI-SMUGGLING OPERATION IN CHILAW YIELDS MAJOR KENDU LEAVES HAUL

An operation conducted by the Intelligence staff of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Station (CGS) Chilaw a significant breakthrough was achieved in the early hours of 06th March 2024. Acting on received intelligence, a combined effort with CGS Chilaw personnel resulted in the apprehension of three individuals and the seizure of an astonishing 1107 kilograms of Kendu leaves.

The operation, executed at approximately 0220 hours in the Chilaw area, targeted a smuggling attempt utilizing a freezer lorry for transportation. The apprehended individuals along with the confiscated Kendu leaves handed over to the Custom Preventive Office in Katunayaka for thorough investigation and legal proceedings. The Sri Lanka Coast Guard through its intelligence network has been watchful in monitoring and curbing such illicit activities.
