SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUES A FISHERMAN IN DISTRESS AT SEA

In a remarkable demonstration of prompt action and maritime expertise, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully rescued a fisherman in distress 50 nautical miles off the coast of Valaichchenai on 17th May 2024.

A multiday fishing trawler that had left Valaichchenai fishery harbour on 12th May 2024 for fishing was found capsized after colliding with a merchant ship. Upon receiving the distress call, the SLCG Fast Patrol Boat, CG 407 was directed to the location from Coast Guard Eastern Region and successfully rescued a fisherman who sustained minor injuries. The fisherman was subsequently transferred to the General Hospital Trincomalee for further treatment.

The successful rescue of a fisherman in distress is a testament to the efficiency and preparedness of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
