DIRECTOR GENERAL COAST GUARD VISITED COAST GUARD EASTERN REGION

Embarking on an official visit to the Coast Guard Eastern Region, the Director General Coast Guard Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana looked into the operational readiness and administrative functions of the Coast Guard Eastern Region on 19th July 2024. During the visit, the Director General of the Coast Guard inspected the Coast Guard Eastern Region Headquarters, Fishing Monitoring Points, SLCGS Jayesagara and all fleet units including Fast Patrol Boats and Inshore Patrol Craft as well as the progress of ongoing training in the Coast Guard Eastern Region. Commander Eastern Naval Area welcomed the Director General Coast Guard to the Eastern Naval Area and discussed combined operations carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard to mitigate the IUU Fishing in the Eastern Region.

Addressing the Coast Guard Personnel in the Eastern Region, the Director General Coast Guard expressed his appreciation to them for the performance of their duty and execution of operations despite many challenges specific to the region. He also emphasized the need to maintain operational readiness, continuous training and maintenance of competent force in the Eastern region to meet the future challenges in the area. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of the commitment of all Coast Guard Personnel to ensure national security and enforcing the law in maritime zones, which is a prime responsibility of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The Commanding Officer SLCGS Jayesagara, the Regional Director Coast Guard Eastern Region and officers and Coast Guard personnel attached to the Coast Guard Eastern Region were present on these occasions.
