SLCG ARRESTED TEN FISHERMEN ENGAGING IN ILLEGAL FISHING PRACTICES

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Inshore Patrol Craft deployed off Trincomalee area on patrolling arrested and apprehended 10 No’s of fishermen along with 02 No’s of FGDs while engaging in illegal fishing on 28^th July 2024. They were engaged in a Purse Seine net fishing operation in an unauthorized sea area (approximately 3.7 km away from the land) and without a license to fish using a Purse Seine net.

According to the existing fishing operation regulations, purse seine net fishing is authorized only in the area beyond 11.2 km from the coast in Trincomalee District.

Arrested/apprehended fishermen and items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries of Trincomalee for further legal action.
