Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ship Suraksha recovered about 2068 kg of Smuggled Kendu Leaves in Kalpitiya Sea

SLCGS Suraksha conducted a special search operation on 09th August 2024 and apprehended approx 2068 kg Kendu leaves with 03 FGDs and 06 suspects in off Uchchamuniya, Kalpitiya sea area as per the information given by SLN.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy conduct regular search operations and patrols to prevent the influx of a wide range of contraband items into the country. As a part of these ongoing efforts, special coordinated operation conducted by Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy to apprehend smuggling of Kendu leaves carrying into the country in Kalpitiya sea.

Based on provided intelligence, SLCGS Suraksha conducted a search operation to intercept the suspected route of smugglers transporting Kendu leaves through sea. Ship’s boarding team were able to recover 62 sacks (approx. 2068 kg) of Kendu leaves and arrest 06 local fishermen with 03 FGDs during this successful operation. It is found the consignment of Kendu leaves was smuggled into the country from India via the sea.

This showcase that the Sri Lanka Coast Guard make every possible attempt to maintain control over its maritime domain.
