Skylight officials, including Regional Manager Mr. Theo Girard and Lead Engineer Mr. Mike Jacobi, made an official visit to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) on 27 January 2025 and it was organized by Global Maritime Crime Programme of UNODC. The purpose of the visit was to establish formal contacts, discuss progress in the utilization of existing accounts, and explore other operational concerns.
During the visit, the Senior Staff Officer (Operations) provided a comprehensive briefing on SLCG’s duties, functions, deployment, and the status of Maritime Domain Awareness tools, particularly Skylight. Following the briefing, Mr. Girard presented the operational capabilities and functionalities of Skylight. His presentation covered the integration of AIS and non-AIS sources, the use of artificial intelligence to predict future scenarios, methods for identifying types of fishing techniques, and case studies demonstrating Skylight’s application in searching pre-defined areas.
The discussions were attended by the Director (Training) of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, who participated as the senior officer representing SLCG. The visit marks an important step in enhancing operational coordination and leveraging advanced technologies for maritime domain awareness.
