The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully carried out a series of beach cleaning programs today (09th Feb) as part of the government’s ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative. The campaign, held under the theme ‘A Beautiful Coastline, An Attractive Tourism Destination’, covered key coastal areas within Coast Guard premises and fishery harbors.
The flagship event took place at Mirissa Beach, led by Director General Rear Admiral Rajapriya Serasinghe, with active participation from the SLCG personnel, local police, political representatives, officials from the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), Central Environment Authority (CEA) and Weligama Local Council, and members of the local community.
Expanding beyond Mirissa, SLCG also spearheaded cleanup efforts across all fishery harbours in the Western and Southern provinces, with special attention given to the coastal stretches of Wellawatte and Mount Lavinia.
The initiative aims to protect Sri Lanka’s maritime environment, promote sustainable tourism, and foster a sense of environmental responsibility among local communities. By engaging the public in conservation efforts, SLCG continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to preserving the country’s natural beauty for future generations and national development.
