SRI LANKA COAST GUARD MARKS 15 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN MARITIME SAFETY AND SECURITY

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) celebrates a remarkable milestone as it commemorates its 15th anniversary on Today, 04th March 2025. Since its inception in 2010, the SLCG has been a cornerstone of Sri Lanka’s maritime safety, security, and environmental protection, earning the trust and admiration of the nation.

Established under the Department of Coast Guard Act No. 41 of 2009, the SLCG operates under the Ministry of Defence as one of the premier Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies. Over the past 15 years, it has expanded its operational capabilities, now boasting a fleet that includes deep-sea patrol vessels, fast patrol boats, and inshore patrol crafts. This enhanced fleet enables the SLCG to effectively monitor and secure Sri Lanka's coastal and maritime zones, addressing challenges such as illegal fishing, smuggling, and other illicit activities.

Additionally, the SLCG has evolved into a highly efficient and professional force, addressing diverse maritime challenges. It plays a crucial role in enhancing coastal safety by establishing lifesaving posts, protecting the marine environment through oil spill response, turtle conservation, and other wildlife preservation initiatives. Furthermore, the SLCG leads critical search and rescue operations, reinforcing national security while ensuring the sustainable use of Sri Lanka’s rich marine resources.

To mark this historic occasion, the SLCG has conducted a series of events, including religious and community engagement programs. These activities aim to showcase the organization’s achievements, honor its personnel, and strengthen its bond with the public.

In a heartfelt message, Rear Admiral Rajapriya Serasinghe, the Director General of the SLCG, reflected on the organization’s journey: “Fifteen years ago, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard was established with a vision to protect our waters and serve our nation. Today, we stand proud of our accomplishments and remain committed to our mission. This anniversary is a tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of our personnel, as well as the support of our partners and the public.”

As the SLCG looks to the future, it remains focused on enhancing its capabilities, embracing new technologies, and fostering international collaborations to address emerging maritime challenges. The 15th anniversary is not just a celebration of the past but also a stepping stone toward a safer, more secure maritime future for Sri Lanka.
