The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Hikkaduwa rescued three Russians, during successful rescue attempts on 28th November 2021. Two Russian males (25 years and 22 years) and a 21 years old female were rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Hikkaduwa beach.

As a part of continuous capacity improvement support, the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) of United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime (UNODC) initiated donation of a Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG). The closing ceremony of Visit, Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) course for Boarding Teams and VBSS Advanced course were conducted by the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and assisted by United State Embassy in Sri Lanka. At the closing ceremony, 08 Officers from Bangladesh Coast Guard, 03 Officers, and 05 sailors from Sri Lanka Coast Guard were awarded certificates.

A delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) led by Mr. Alan Cole, head of the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) and a delegation from Bangladesh led by Mr. GSM Jafar Ullah, Additional Secretary, Public Security Division, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) visited CGHQ Mirissa on 25th November 2021.
