Practice of killing sharks to remove fins from the body of sharks has become attractive illegal practice and few of short-sighted fisherman are catching sharks only for tiny piece of fin and discarded body drops at sea. In Sri Lanka retaining, trans shipping, or landing the ‘parts of any shark species’ is an offence under the Shark Fisheries Management Regulations 2015 of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources act No 2 of 1996.

The newly built shrine with Buddha statue was opened at Coast Guard Station Kirinda (CGS Kirinda) on 31^st December 2021. The Buddha statue was placed in the shrine room at an auspicious time with the blessing of Maha Sanga. Chief incumbent of Daladagama temple Venerable Denagama Saagala Thero, and Chief incumbent Kirinda temple Venerable Yatagala Vineetha Thero and other Buddhist Monks conducted the religious rituals.

The Sri Lanka Navy officially handed over an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on 03^rd January 2022 at the ceremony held at Galle harbour. The occasion was graced by Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayaka, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard (DG SLCG), and Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage, Commander Southern Naval Area (CSNA), and senior officials from Naval headquarters.
