The newly constructed junior sailors’ mess of CGS Kirinda was declared open on 04th August 2020 by Rear Admiral GDAS Wimalathunge on the invitation of Regional Director Southern Region and Commanding Officer SLCG Rohana Captain (G) AMSR Kumara . The Building was constructed to uplift the living standard of the junior sailors of CGS Kirinda on the directions given by Director General Coast Guard.

The second phase of ‘Oil spill incident management training program in open seas’ conducted from 19th to 28th February 2020 at SLCG Advanced Training Centre, Mirissa in continuation to 2019 - 2021 three years JICA sponsored capacity building programme. Japan Coast Guard (JCG) members including representatives of National Strike Team (NST) conducted the program with the collaboration of JICA Sri Lanka office. It is a comprehensive training program in the field of oil pollution management and response at open seas including detection of hazardous gases. Program was conducted as theory, practical and simulated exercise sessions and 62 participants including 09 Officers from Sri Lanka Coast Guard attended the program.

Indian Coast Guard ships ICGS Veera and Abheek were on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka from 9th to 15th February. The ships arrived in the port of Trincomalee on 09th February and ceremonially received by SLN and SLCG. The visit was aimed at furthering the level of cooperation and interoperability between Coast Guards of both the nations and to share experience and knowledge in capacity building.
