Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel attached to SLCG ‘Waruna’ conducted a special awareness programme for fishermen in Chilaw area at Chilaw fisheries centre on 08th November 2019. During the programme fishermen were educated on Sri Lanka Coast Guard role in fishery activities and existing fishing regulations. Sri Lanka Coast Guard facilitated four days lifesaving training programme at Advanced Training Center, Mirissa held with the participation over 120 young life savers representing Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Police, Civil Security Department, schools and Clubs. The programme was conducted by Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) – Australia in collaboration with Sri Lanka Coast Guard. Sri Lanka Coast Guard coordinated the event with the assistance of SLN considering the importance of this special training to uplift the standards of Life Savers Island wide and to ensure upholding the national drowning prevention initiative pioneered by Presidential Secretariat.
