The Oil Spill Response Management Team of the Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was mobilized a.m 16th January 2018 at Kolonnawa in order to mitigate a Furnace Oil spillage on the request of Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL). The team, specialized to tackle this type of pollutions commenced their activities at site with the clean-up teams employed by the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited.

The Life Guards of Sri Lanka Coast Guard performed another remarkable duty by rescuing two drowning men. One victim was a French gentleman (Age 64) who was drowning and being dragged away by the prevailing sea current at Moragolla beach Yesterday (11th Jan). The other rescue done by Mirissa SLCG lifesavers today evening (12th Jan), was a Chinese gentleman (Age 22). Mirissa which is famous for clear beaches among local and foreign holidaymakers is protected by Lifesaving point of Sri Lanka Coast Guard to ensure the safety of visitors while they enjoy its' beautiful scenery.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard facilitated the repatriation of 20 Indian fishermen today (27December). They had been taken into custody for trespassing into the Sri Lankan territorial waters and engaging in illegal fishing activities. Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s Patrol Craft CG 404 was deployed for the repatriation mission. The repatriated Indian fishermen were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Ameya’ at the International Maritime Boundary Line north of Kankesanthurai this afternoon.

Lifesavers of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard attached to Life Saving Point Gopalapuram in the Eastern Region, rescued another two persons who were drowning in the seas off Gopalapuralm, Nelaveli and transferred them ashore safely yesterday (24th December). The distressed persons who are residents of Akurana in Matale, had been swept out by rough waves while bathing in this area. Having observed this incident, Coast Guard lifesavers had rushed into action and salvaged the two lives. Later on, the victims were handed over to their relations.

Lifesavers of Sri Lanka Coast Guard attached to Lifesaving Pont Gopalpuram, Nilaveli in the Eastern Region pulled 2 persons who were drowning in the seas off Gopalpuram beach yesterday (24 December). They were residents of Badulla and Dehiovita aged 25 and 27. The Coast Guard lifesaving team promptly responded to the emergency situation and rescued the two who were swept out to sea while bathing. Subsequently, the victims were safely brought to the shore by the Coast Guard personnel.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life savers attached to Life Saving Point Gopalapuram in the Eastern Region, rescued a person who was drowning at Gopalapuram sea area yesterday (26th December). The 54 years old victim from Hadugoda in Galle had stepped into sea for bathing and swept out in the surge waves. With quick reaction into the incident, Coast Guard Lifesavers transferred the rescued person safely ashore and he was admitted to Nelaveli hospital for medical treatment.

Two Bangladesh Coast Guard ships, Mansoor Ali (PL 73) and BCGS Kamaruzzaman (PL 74) arrived Colombo harbour on 16th December 2017 and departed on 18thDecember 2017. These ‘Leader class’ former Italian naval ships have been acquired by the Bangladesh Coast Guard recently and they were on their passage to home port in Bangladesh. The port call at Colombo was to be their final in this long passage from Italy after the refurbishment and takeover of the vessels.
