SIXTH HIGH LEVEL MEETING BETWEEN SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AND INDIAN COAST GUARD

A high-level meeting between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was convened at the Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) in New Delhi on 18th October 2023. This meeting marked a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts aimed at combating transnational illegal activities at sea and promoting regional cooperation.

The meeting was led by Director General Rakesh Pal, PTM, TM, of the Indian Coast Guard (DGICG), and Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana, USP, ndu, of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (DGSLCG), who headed their respective delegations. The discussions and initiatives undertaken during this meeting signify the commitment of both organizations to enhancing maritime security and addressing transnational challenges in the region.

The discussion also extended to the expected support of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in building the capacity of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) in terms of maritime safety aspects, particularly in the area of oil spill response and management.
