SRI LANKA COAST GUARD SAVES 124 HUMAN LIVES WITHIN THE HALF A YEAR 2024

As the premier maritime law enforcement organization, Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) functions in multi-mission services of the purpose of ensuring the security of the coastal areas, the Maritime Zones, the territorial waters and the High seas. SLCG has been empowered to assist in preventing, the entry and exit of illegal immigrants and emigrants, the trafficking of narcotic drugs and contrabands.

In addition to above, Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) has been providing social service of life rescues of the general public for more than a decade by manning 16 lifesaving posts located in the most popular beaches around the country.

During the half a year of 2024, SLCG has saved 124 invaluable human lives, including 68 foreign nationals bringing the total to 2236 lives since the inception of life saving service in 2015. The highest numbers of life rescues (36) have been made from lifesaving post at Mirissa. Many locals and foreigners have praised the SLCG lifesaving service on numerous occasions for its alertness, devotion, and professionalism over the years.
