A Giant Crocodile Safely Relocated from Mirissa Beach

Mirissa Beach, a popular destination for tourists and locals, faced an unexpected and potentially dangerous situation this week when a 12-foot crocodile was spotted in the coastal waters. The reptile roamed the beach area for nearly a day and a half, sparking concern among beachgoers and the local community.

Upon being alerted by hoteliers & residents, a quick coordinated response was mounted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), the Department of Wildlife Conservation and Mirissa community. The crocodile was safely captured and relocated to its natural habitat without any harm.

The crocodile’s safe relocation underscores an important effort by SLCG persons with the support of the community, demonstrating the power of swift, coordinated action in both preserving wildlife and maintaining public safety in this tourist hotspot.
