The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) has successfully conducted its inaugural integrated Vessel Board Search and Seize (VBSS) Basic Course for 02 Officers and 06 sailors each from the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and the SLCG. This landmark event in the history of the SLCG training is held in Trincomalee from 25th September to 04th October 2024, marking a significant step in enhancing operational capabilities in the maritime security.
This training was conducted by two VBSS qualified instructors of the SLCG under the close supervision of VBSS instructors of the UNODC. The contents of the training has been adapted and tailored by the SLCG to meet the specific needs of law enforcement personnel. It focused on essential skills and techniques for legal and effective vessel boarding and searching by ensuring participants are well equipped to address emerging maritime threats.
Throughout the course, trainees engaged in hands-on exercises and simulations that provided realistic scenarios, fostering teamwork and operational readiness. The dedication and professionalism displayed by the participants underscored the commitment of both the SLN and SLCG in maintaining security in the maritime zones of Sri Lanka.
