Three Persons Arrested with 676 kgs of Kendu Leaves in Wennappuwa Area

In a successful operation carried out on 15^th October 2024 early this morning, intelligence staff from the Coast Guard Station Chilaw arrested three individuals in the Wennappuwa area. Intercepted a lorry at 0130 hrs which was found to be transporting 676 kilograms of Kendu leaves packed into 21 bundles.

The arrested individuals along with the seized contraband have been handed over to the Department of Excise in Wennappuwa for further investigation. The Sri Lanka Coast Guard continue to monitor smuggling activities in the region, with this operation marking a significant step in curbing the illegal trade of Kendu leaves.
