Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rescues Entangled Turtle off Myliddy Fishing Harbour

In a commendable act of marine conservation, Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel stationed in the Northern Region successfully rescued a distressed turtle entangled in a fishing net near Myliddy Fishing Harbour, Jaffna on 13th January 2025. The operation was conducted under the guidance of the Northern Region’s Regional Director.

The turtle, discovered struggling amidst the floating net, was carefully freed by the Coast Guard team. Following the rescue, the animal was handed over to the office of the Assistant Director of Wildlife in Kilinochchi for further treatment and rehabilitation.

This swift and coordinated response underscores the Coast Guard’s dedication to protecting marine life. Rear Admiral Rajapriya Serasinghe, Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding endangered marine species and conserving the ecological balance of the nation’s waters.
