The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) continues its commitment to ensuring the safety of beachgoers by inaugurating two new Coast Guard Lifesaving Points at Bentota Beach on 14 February 2025. This initiative, funded by the Ministry of Tourism under the close coordination of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and construction carried out by Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel.
With the establishment of these two fully equipped lifesaving points, the total number of Coast Guard Lifesaving Points across Sri Lanka has now increased to 17, significantly enhancing the country's beach safety measures. These strategically located stations will ensure rapid response to emergency situations and reinforce the Coast Guard’s mission to safeguard lives in Sri Lanka’s coastal waters.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Rear Admiral Rajappriya Serasinghe, Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, and Dr. Prasad Jayasuriya, Director of Tourism and Planning from SLTDA, as Chief Guests. The event was also attended by senior officers of the SLCG, representatives from SLTDA, officials from the Ministry of Tourism, and General Managers and representatives of renowned hotels in the area, including NH Bentota, Bentota Thaala, and Hotel Cinnamon Bentota.
The Sri Lanka Coast Guard remains dedicated to strengthening its lifesaving capabilities and collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance coastal safety. The establishment of these lifesaving points in Bentota is a testament to the SLCG’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that Sri Lanka’s beaches remain safe for both locals and tourists.
