Commodore TAM Leelarathne is a distinguished naval officer with over 29 years of dedicated service, including over a decade of sea service, holding a deep commitment to safeguarding maritime security and ensuring the safety and efficiency of coastal operations. He joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 16th October 1995, as an officer cadet of the 24th Cadet Intake and completed his basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee, procuring his commission as Acting Sub Lieutenant on 16th October 1997. He honed his naval expertise by completing the Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at INS Venduruthy and specialized in Anti-Submarine Warfare at the ASW School of the Indian Navy in 2005.

Presently, Commodore TAM Leelarathne serves as Deputy Director General at the Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, demonstrating exceptional leadership and strategic foresight, to foster stronger relationships between the Regional Coast Guard and local, national, and international partners. During his voyage, he held numerous key appointments both afloat and ashore, including Commanding Officer of the SLNS Abheetha II, SLNS Vijaya, SLNS Wasabha, SLNS Rangalla and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) for Colombo Harbour. His senior-level career features several prestigious appointments, including Officer Training Officer at NMA, Commandant of SLNS Nipun, and Commanding Officer of 4th Fast Attack Flotilla and SLNS Sayura.

He is a proud alumnus of Revatha Maha Vidyalaya in Balapitiya. Commodore Leelarathne shares his life with his loving wife, Mrs Ranathunga, and together, they are blessed with two daughters, creating a harmonious balance between his demanding career and family life.
