Commodore Prasad Jayasinghe, RSP*, USP, psn joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 02 November 1995 as an Officer Cadet of the 13th Intake at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). He completed his basic naval training at KDU and the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee.
He holds a BSc (Defence Studies) in Management and Technical Science and specialized in Navigation at the Indian Navy’s Navigation School, INS Vendruthy, in 2004. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College (psn) and holds an MSc in War Studies (Maritime) from the National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan (2012).
With over 30 years of distinguished service, including eight years at sea, Commodore Jayasinghe has held a number of key appointments both afloat and ashore. Notable among these are Commanding Officer of SLNS Parakramabahu, SLNS Thammanna, and SLN Dockyard; Senior Staff Officer (Foreign Training) and Deputy Director Administration at Naval Headquarters; Deputy Area Commander, Southeastern Naval Area; and, presently, Deputy Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
In recognition of his gallantry and distinguished conduct in the face of the enemy, Commodore Jayasinghe has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) twice. He is also a recipient of the Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for unblemished service, and has been commended by the Commander of the Navy for exceptional service.
A proud alumnus of Royal College, Colombo, Commodore Prasad Jayasinghe is married to Mrs. Sanjeewani and is blessed with two daughters.
